REBORN

Icon Machine tells their storyOkuma Captain machine

ICON Machine Company was started in April of 1999 by Russell Hawkins, Brian Mahaffey and Wes Gurley.  The gentleman had nearly 20 years of experience on Okuma equipment and decided they would build their business using Okuma lathes.  “We knew that in order to do the best quality of work, we would need the very best equipment available.”

After purchasing a couple of used Okuma Cadet’s, the organization was off and running and molding itself into a precision job shop.  During one of the more difficult 3 year stretches in manufacturing history, ICON was able to weather the storm and continue producing quality parts.  The original two Okuma’s were running an average of 60 hours per week with the only downtime scheduled for preventative maintenance.  It became time to expand!

In 2004, ICON purchased its first new Okuma with the acquisition of a Captain L370.  Later in early 2006, the organization purchased two more Okuma lathes, its second Captain L370 and a Heritage ES-L 6.  “Hartwig has helped us our immensely by supplying us great equipment and allowing us to grow to be a very successful machine shop.”  ICON has also become a believer in Okuma’s OSP control.  “Okuma’s control and IGF is the easiest ‘Smarts’ program one can find.  We have worked with other lathes over the past 23 years and the Okuma lathe is by far the best out there.  Okuma lathes are dependable and have extremely user-friendly controls!”

ICON now has over 20 employees and continues to grow daily.  ICON has developed a reputation as a premier manufacturing organization for the quality of the work they produce and the variety of industries they can supply.  From aerospace and defense to telecom, ICON has the versatility to support the high precision market.
